The Cornershop



Yasmin Khan has presented documentaries about British Asian issues for Anglia TV and brings her experiences as a youth and community worker in Bedford to her writing. She co-presented, researched and scripted a series of documentaries on youth issues for Anglia TV. She is one of the first British Asian women of Pakistani origin to have her work staged professionally.

Ravi Mangat wrote sketches for the Paramount Comedy Channel in 1999 and co-wrote two theatrical sketch shows, Arrange That Marriage, which toured nationally in 1998/1999 and Don't Look at My Sister…Innit, which toured nationally, including the Edinburgh Comedy Festival, in 1999.

Ashok Patel started writing and performing stand-up comedy in 1997 and has since performed all over London. He is one of the writers of the stage show I Eat Aloo Gobi…innit? which was staged in London in autumn 2000. He writes a twice monthly column for India Weekly and is a research scientist in the field of diabetes at the University of Birmingham.

Born in Kenya in 1946, the Panjabi writer Amarjit Chandan graduated from Panjab University. He has published four collections of poetry including an English version of one collection entitled Being Here, plus two books of essays in Panjabi. He has lived in the UK since 1980.
